I think I'm ready for deer season

Attachment 49311Checked the point of impact with the new Hornady SST ammo for the 7mm Rem. mag. all shots at just over 100 yards with a rest off the hood of the pickup, so not a benchrest by far.

The Orange circle is 1 1/2 across, or 3/4 from center to edge. first two low and right at 5/8" center to center. Moved the scope 6 clicks up and 6 clicks left and the next two were less than 1/4 center to center. I left it right there!:D

Almost 50 year old Parker Hale 7mm Remington Magnum with a Mouser action and a Nikon 4-14 mil dot scope

Laying it across the hood, I couldn't get a good fit to my shoulder, so it kicked the snot out of me! Think I'm going to bruised tomorrow. Oh well, all that goes away and you don't feel the recoil when you have a deer in your sights:DAttachment 49310

Thats why I like a semi auto! Less kickback and I know its usually going to take more than one shot! Nice looking gun!

Thanks Dan. I had been looking at new rifles and everything had synthetic stocks, and I just wasn't happy with the way they felt when I put them to my shoulder. I was looking for a .270, .308 or 30-06 and 7mm was a lot more gun than I wanted, but it had such a good feel to it that I couldn't pass it up. The owner let the origional barrel rust pretty bad, so before selling it, he had it re barreled. as you can see the thing is very accurate.

I had 4 tags last year and filled them all with one shot each even though I wasn't happy with the pointed soft point ammo I was using. At under 100 yards and over 3,000 feet per second none of the bullets expanded and they all made the same size exit hole as the entry. Two ran about 20 yards before dropping and two dropped in their tracks. All 4 were broadside heart/lung shots.

Synthetic stocks are why I use Remington 7400 semi auto's! I love my real walnut wood stocks. They feel like you have a gun in your hands! Thats another reason I don't carry or own a Glock hand gun. I like the feel of metal, cold steel in my hands! Thats why my main Conceal Carry gun is a Smith & Wesson.

LOL I kind of go overboard with my shells! I like a 185 grain hollow point in a 30-06. Makes a nice little hole going in but makes a very large hole going out.
