I have a dock that at its deepest point at normal pool sits about 16-18' deep. I have a creek channel that runs out in front of the dock about 40' that is about 60' deep. I have my dock pretty well loaded with brush.(hanging cedars and sunkin cedars) My question is I have enough trees to sink a line from the dock to the creek channel. Do I sink a continuous line of cover, or sink individual piles along the way? Any advice would be helpful. Great sight by the way. Thanks
IMHO, I f you have enough to get all the way out to the creek channel, Id do it. That might lead em right into your dock.
Agreed. Fish will usecontinuous cover, settling right into where there`s food and it`s most comfy for them.

A follow up question: With water temps dropping this time of year, will the addition of the highway to deeper water deteriate the fish I have on the dock know. In other words will the attraction of cover win out over mother nature telling them it's time to move deeper, or will they stay on the cover for as long as possible. I have a boat I can got out deeper after them, but it's pretty nice to set up a lawn chair and just go fishing. Thanks again. I know I'm probably wanting the best of both worlds. Go ahead and tell me not to be so lazy and get the dang boat out.
I think as long as the water temp holds out, they will stay shallow. They will go deeper eventually. Dont be greedy, the crappie follow the bait fish, feed the minnows. Hang a submerged bag of corn or catfish food or dog food in a burlap sack just above the structure under your dock, that will keep the minnow and bait fish coming in. Any wave action will knock a little fish food or dog food thru the fibers into the water and the minners will be there to collect. It probly will work in warmer water, in the summer months a bit better.
With shallow to deep cover from under the dock to the creek channel, allowing for wind and current, you should be able to fish alot of it from the dock, would guess. As far as "chumming", DO check to ensure it`s legal if on public waters; some states it`s OK, others a BIG no-no.
