Sold on sickle jigs
Okay, I've been having a hard time believing what I have been told about sickle hooks. However, the last two dock trips have me sold on 'em now. This past thursday, I fished a regular jig for awhile and then switched to sickles in the same colors after a few fish shook the hook. EVERY fish was hooked in the top of the mouth very solidly with the sickles... no shaking them!
Went out this evening to a different dock to try and apply some new ideas and techniques there. Ended up catching way more fish than I had before, and the sickles brought 'em home again!
Check this out...

For gills and white bass, a regular bend hook will do just fine. For the finicky and light biting crappie who can shake a hook pretty easy, I am switching to sickles! Guess I've got a Crazy Angler order to make.... ;)

Thats Right a great Jig Hook no doubt.

Only problem that I have had is they will not bend when you get snagged. The will break at the first bend..
Other than that they are great...

I have found that some people that pour sickle heads get them too hot and make them brittle. The red and gold sickle hooks are the worst about breaking sometime they even break at the eye when over heated. Over the years I have never seen a bronze sickle hook break. I used to buy regular jig heads from walmart until every other hook was breaking. I have always bought quality sickle heads off of ebay and at TNT Tackle Online and Jasons Jigs and More items - Get great deals on JIG AND GRUB BODIES, JIG HEADS items on eBay Stores!

Kid, I'm a new convert to sickle hooks too. Used bigger ones for a while and was still on the fence. Pbug and I got together on a trade a while back and I got some of the smaller ones and I like em. Better hook ups and less early release(convict fish).

I like them too but no doubt about it, the sickles break easier than a standard hook.

Sometime you run into some QC problems, but for what they are, they are the best. no other hook is that sharp and has the good hook up ability that are also price competitive.
Welcome to the Sickle party!

smaller sizes will work great for bluegills and the other fish you mentioned.i like how sharp the sickles are.

I like em but I still have thousands of regular Mustads and a bunch of Eagle Claws too.
