Never been to Ky lake but buddies want to come down next spring. Just had a couple questions. Is end of April good time? also will be going to Jonathan Creek area. I have a pretty small boat 14' v-bottom 25hp is that big enough to fish Jonathan Creek? Thanks for any help.

Hey SlabDaddy1,
Last 2 weeks in March and 1st week in April are prime. End of April will work but it is usually winding down. Of course there is the water and weather factor.14' is almost to small for the front but the back it would be OK. The big boats in there make some monster waves.

Ok thanks for your help will see if we can get it worked out.

You can fish the bay with a 14ft V, IF you are careful and keep an eye on the wind. Jonathan runs in the direction of the prevailing wind, so high winds can make the main bay out near the main lake a bit rough.
I'd get there earlier than the last week in April if you can.

West of the bridge can get pretty rough too if the wind is out of the north or south, probably be ok if you watch the forecast. I wouldn't want to be in a 14' west of the bridge if it was gonna be gusting over 20.

Talked with 2 guys last weekend who were fishing in that creek and said they had kept 50 from wednesday thru saturday. They said the bite was slow but you would hit them and catch 5 or 6 then wait a few hours and catch 5 or 6 again. Good luck!

slab....just left there....i have a 17ft bass tracker with a 25 horse....any wind over 10mph out in the bay had me going all over the place....wouldn't like to be in anything smaller

thanks for all the help, will have to rethink this trip

It all depends on the wind. Much over 8 and it will be difficult to keep a boat that size still to fish, much over 12 it would get dangerous. I often see boats that size on the lake, and if the conditions are right, I wouldn't hesitate to go out. However, I would hate to make the long trip and the weather not cooperate.
I fished today and it was like a sheet of glass. I would have rowed a canoe across the lake. But it is rare for the lake to be that calm.

Expect a lot of company. I hear there are a ton of boats in there in the spring.
