Link wouldn't work for me. Don't know anyting about H'bird specifically, but in theory, you take an RJ45 connetion and use Cat5 cable to make network connections. Been needed for a long time and Lowrance has already moved to it. Works similar to a USB port. Plug and Play compatable as far as configurations etc. The catch is when you have multiple devices such as fuel flow, wheather sense, sirius weather etc.... You run out of ports on the unit, so you have to use a networking box to combine everything on the network.
I'll poke around and see what I can find out.

Yeah go figure this all out so I can give it a try.
Midnight- Come to our get together and I will give you a new 2011 H'bird & MK catalog.
Here is the link.
ICAST 2010 Videos
It still looks like the H'bird folks are playing catch up to Lowrance.
Been poking around, but can't look at the videos here. Only thing I can find out is that it will be available as a network option on the new units.

Yep coming out with the new models.. 1198 hummmmmm
I found alittle information on it not much.
At ICAST today, Humminbird announced ethernet networking for their fishing systems will be rolling out by January 1. All current ethernet-capable head units will be able to run ethernet, as will the 1198 that will be coming out this fall.
Ethernet networking will allow head units to share all available sonar data (in addition to GPS, waypoints, and routes like we currently have available with Interlink). The ethernet networking capability will roll out for 2 units, but a 4-unit network will roll out shortly thereafter, for guys like me that have units sprinkled all over their boat. All current ethernet-capable units will be able to upgrade to ethernet networking with a simple, free software upgrade from the Humminbird website.
Also looks like they will be using the round wheather proof connector, so the RJ45s will be out. That will increase the cost of wiring. What looks nice to me is that all head units can use one tranducer. Or thats the way I read it.
Yeah, it won't be a true RJ45. That was only for a point of reference.
