Have an older Minn Kota 599 41 ft lb foot control 12/24 , how do you measure the shaft length , I measured from where it screws into the motor and where it goes into the head , I get 35 inches , can this be right ??

Actually it sorta kinda is. Ask 10 people you'll get 12 answers. I believe it's measured from the center of the prop shaft to the bottom of the head. Not entirely sure. Never heard of a 35" shaft though. Have heard of 30" and 36" on transom mounted units. Your motor sounds pretty dated from the model number, so 35 is possible I suppose.

I just took off my older motorguide - and it measured the same. It probably was listed as a 36", but it didn't measure that. Either way it was too short for the chop on Ky lake, so I upgraded to a 45" Fortrex, and I am loving it.Quote:
