Roberts creek 10/14
Fished Roberts Creek yesterday and can only say WOW. Been waiting all year to fish some new brushpiles that have had way too much water on them. Kept 50 fish smallest was 11 3/4 to 14 inch. The funnest day on the water Ive had in a long time. Didnt catch alot of small fish maybe 30 but the big fish were on a tear. Willl try and post pics later. PJ
PS BEC we do need to form a IOWA crappie club lets get it done.

Wow, that sounds like loads of fun. All summer, the DNR reports have had Robert's Creek as being one of the better crappie lakes. I need to get over there. I've been hitting the brush piles at Big Creek a lot this year with some pretty good luck. I went out for a couple hrs this afternoon and came home with 18 decent fish, but not as big as what you got. Sizes of 9-11. What were you using? Minnows? I've had to get right in the brushpiles lately to get good bite. I've switched to 20lb line with 6 lb leader, so I can dip straight down in all the branches and jerk the crappie straight out quickly. Works pretty good, but still get hung up a lot.
Iowa Crappie club? I would have to take off my Missouri Crappie.com sticker then. I'm for it, if we can get more interest.

Wow have heard good things about the place latly and sounds like they are true. Sure have had the itch to get out since truman which is odd for me usally only hunt in the fall but have always known I was missing out on some great fishing. Maybe Sunday after I get out of work I will give it a shot somewhere.

I may have to try it Sunday too. Not sure what the wife has planned after church, but maybe I can talk her into letting me go. You know, there aren't many "boat" fishing days left in Iowa before the winter hits us.

Wave at me IWN, if you see me :)

Hope that the big slabs wll start down here shorty. Very hot summer and wil take alot of cool nights to get the water cooled down and the crappies will then turn on.

Our water temps (at least where I'm fishing) are right around 65. I've been doing fair. Went out Friday about 3pm, home by 6 with 18. Lost a lot of hooks though, have to drop the hook right down inside the brush piles, and pull straignt up quick when they bite.

Cory, hey great day on the water. My Dad and his cousin fish robert's creek a lot, and are always trying to get me to come up. If it is before the rathbun tourney, I feel like I am cheating myself from good practice at Rathbun, but I do make it up seldomly.
Anyway, I will start gathering info on starting a club. If you or anyone have some good tips, please post. Otherwise I will start the ball rolling. my email is [email protected] is anyone needs to contact me. Also, be glad to give anyone my cell number. Let's start a club, build it into something great for us anglers, crappie fishing in Iowa, and most importantly insure that crappie fishing is great for the next generation. It would great to get together a few times a year and work on structure, have a few tourneys, have a take a kid fishing day, a crappie school type thing, never know we maybe able to influence policy someday, and lure a Classic.
I get ahead of myself though.
Good luck to everyone on the water.
