The cost of weighted hooks are ridiculous! and I like long shank small gap jig hooks.
I've read on-line do-it-yourself info and some say there is an art to doing it right plus the absolute need for ventilation and mask (major health risk?). I don't plan on selling, so perfection is not an issue.
What say you?

Good source for molds?
its alot cheaper once you are set up, if you loose alot of jigs. But I would wait for the ruling on lead from the EPA before I went gung-ho
I would say pour your own if its something you think you would enjoy doing. Dont do it to save money, you could buy a bunch of jigheads for what it will cost ya to get set up to pour. Melting pot $55, mold $25-30, hooks $20-30..... But if you like making your own tackle Id say do it.

i pour my own if you buy in a bulk you save some money. I can pour a 1000 1/32-6 regular hooks for about, 45.00 bucks. But if you buy them there about 65-90 dollars per 1000. like rondon said molds are about 37.00, hooks are 20.00 per 1000, lead if you buy is about 65.00 per 100pounds. Lead pot is 60.00...So to start up you will have 187.00. but when you repour more heads all you will have to pay is 20.00 for 1000 more hooks. Its all a preferance thing though. I just like getting outside to pour.

I figured I might not save much initially, but the important things are:
I can make them and not waste money on gas, shipping or tax; I can avoid inflation; I can custom make them; don't have to worry sales of lead jigs will be banned in my state like lead weights are.
myself i save money plus you can make what sizes you want. i make alot 1/16 size 8 sickle.
