Need new batteries trying to decide what would be the best to get and should i go with gel batteries. I have a 24 volt trolling motor on a aluminum boat. The reason considering going with the gel batteries was cause a friend of mine dads boat had battery acid leak out in the bottom and before he had realized it it had eaten small pin holes in bottom of boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You don't want gel batteries. They are dated technology and easily damaged by the use of non-gel chargers.
Absorbed Glass Mat or AGM batteries are the best at preventing spills, and are compatible with all brands of onboard chargers. Whatever kind of batteries you have, put them in trays or battery boxes to help control a leak.
If you go with AGMs, the Diehard PM-1 has a much larger capacity than the Optimas for only a little more money. The PM-1 is 205 minute RC compared to 155 minutes for the Optima. Either way, the AGMs will set you back more than $200 each.
Yep, whatever you get should be in a box and covered. That's coast guard regs
I have them in trays so i should go with covered boxes.
If you want to pass a coast guard auxillary inspection they are suppose to be covered.Quote:
