rod for dipping brush/spider rigging?

where i could find a long pole for not a lot of money and i got a question can you use a dipping rod for spider rigging? and could you recommend one for me ? im looking for about a 12' er and im using a Pflueger® President® Micro Ultralight Spinning Reel - Model 6720X and im looking for a cheap but good long pole for dipping brush and spider rigging and i would like to stick with a cork handle

Good luck finding a cheap, cork handled, trolling rod. I looked and couldn't find one.


I would suggest looking at one of the "Team Watters" rods from GT Crappie Zone. Crappie George, the owner, is a regular here.

Josh, take a look at www.grizzly jig.com and call and ask for Lance Mansfield. They did have some HT Tackle 10' & 12' rods on sale in their last catalog, I think they were around the $25.00 range.

can anyone tell me how they set up for spider rigging. Weights, jigs or minnows, length of leaders etc. I will appreciate any help.

12' rods, 3/4 oz weight, 1/16 oz pony heads, tipped w/ minnows. I use regular crappie rigs, and tie a 6 to 8" leader to the ponyhead. I have extra crappie rigs and ponyheads with leaders on noodles for quick replacement.

Thanks G-Man, I will get some of those made up, before my next trip to the lake, to try out. I'm new to the techniques for crappie fishing and can use all the help I can get.

Here's a rod I just converted. Berkely Lightnin rod model LRC902DR downrigger in 9-0' med. action. I stripped the bulky foam grips & reel seat and installed a 20" cork Tennesee grip for balance.

Now I have it loaded to the gills!!! I would not hesitate to use this rod on the spring wade bite, vert. jiggin or spider riggin....and it comes with 12 SS guides + tip. I can even stretch this rod to 10-6" or 11' no problem.
