help/65 hp merc/ fuel leak

Just thought I would see if I can get any bites.

Was out on the lake today, noticed right off that my motor would not idle, I could start it with the cold start engaged but had to put it in gear real fast, then I notice with the motor up fuel was dripping out sometimes even a small stream. I would motor to a spot then disconnect the fuel line, hook it back up and pump up the bulb it would go bact to leaking. When I got it home I pulled the cowling, the fuel seems to be coming at the front of the carburator and makes a sucking gurgling kind of noise, this was after I put the fuel line back on and pumped up the bulb. I hace a cover I have to remove to see the front of the carbs. Wondering if I might have a float sticking or some gasket out?

Sounds like a float stuck or the needle valve has some trash in it keeping it from closing. That will cause gas to run straight through.

65 hp mercury/2 carbs

Just pulled off the cover in front of the carburator and looked, when I plug in the fuel line and pump up the bulb there is a constant flow of fuel out of a short tube inside and to the front of the barrell of the lower carb.

Time to rebuild your carbs. Be sure to use new gaskets, needle and seat. Be sure to blow all the little ports inside with carb cleaner and air. Check the floats and make sure they are in good condition.

Bill, I looked on the web and about all I could find was iboats for mercury parts. Opened the viewer for a float that was listed for my SN, it did not appear to be the same as mine. My SN is OB158108, they say it is a 72-75 year model ?? Do you by chance have a good part number for a rebuild kit. The upper Carb had WM-13-1A on it and the lower one had WM-13-3. The number iboats had was a WMT-13 ?? Going to check with some local marine dealers tommorrow.

Are you sure that is a 65HP and not a 60? OB158108 is a 1987 model. Verify this with the dealer but it looks like you need a 6200 (gasket set) and a 19271 (needle and seat) for each carb.

You are correct it is a 60 hp.
