Its probably the thermostats controlling that issue. When it opens it flows when it closing back not as much.. Change impeler and thermostat take the worry away
Hey boatman thanks I have never done anything like that before, so I did a search on the impeler and the other stuff and watched some videos and it looks fairly easy, I didnt think it would be something I could do.
That is signs of a failing impeller. Easy to change on that motor. And like already said, change the thermostat too.
Hey guys once I drop the lower unit is there anything you shold do like blow any air at the top of the motor where the water comes out to make sure that there is no blockage of any kind. Thanks
I wouldn't think so. If there are any blockages they should be around the thermostat area. One thing you can try is start the engine with the thermostats out. If it flows and doesn't stop flowing at anytime you are good. What you are seeing is the thermostat opening and closing. The pee hole on mercs and mariners is on the back side of the thermostats...on older johnnyrudes they are on the front side...so you never see a difference in the pee stream.
When you put your water pump on use LOTS of dish soap. Put the impellor down with the key on the shaft...cover it with soap...and in the housing...the put the housing down on the impellor...as you put the housing down turn the shaft in the direction that will make the blades turn like the old one looked. Once you get it all back togther turn the shaft by hand and you'll see bubbles come out of the input tube. Soap will make your job ALOT easier. Soap also keeps things lubed as you get it all together and start if for the first time. I've heard of some using grease...but soap is alot easier to clean up and lets you see bubbles when you turn it by hand. Just gives you a bit of added security when doing it for the first time. Like I said...probably stay away from the air...just take the stats out and start it after you get the pump in. Watch the stream...should be good, strong, and steady. If so, don't worry about it and put the stats back in. Just my opinion.
Scapper thanky you I appriciate the advice.
Hey thanks for the help guys I installed my kit today and put the muffs on it and everything seemed good.
