Side Imaging Enhance - Humminbird Exclusive Feeature

Hope learning about this feature helps you see more fish on Side Imaging versus just structure on Side Scan Sonar...the real reason we invest in Hi Frequency Sonar Systems...to catch more fish.

I have to be honest on this one Doug. I think the returns in the "off" settings are the best, and are sufficient for showing fish. The sharper you go, the worse the quality is. The primary returns are in all 3 images, so how does this help you catch more crappie? It appears to make the returns less useful. I tried the same settings way back when this came out on my HB units, and ended up never using it again. If you can see crappie in or around the structure, that's going to be all the indicator you would need, and it appears the "off" setting provides that.

I guess what I'm asking for is clarification on what you are seeing in the low, medium, and high shots that allows you to catch more crappie then you do from reading it in the off setting. That might help us to catch more crappie if we now exactly what you are doing.

Nice Comparison Doug! Keep up the good work! I use the enhance to see the fish seperated better. the sharpen on off makes a tight school of fish look like a blob of baitfish the setting low- high helps me determine the invidual fish.

Yes you lose some crispness and makes structure look grainy in the higher settings but are you looking for structure or fish? SI Enhance makes the fish stand out and are much easier to find. Look at the fish in these two images...

Look how much easier it is to see the fish...Just look at the ones in the channel shows the difference. The fish are crisper white and stand out from the background.

I use Low to Med Settings and makes it so much easier to find individual fish...especially the ones suspended out to the sides over the structure when looking 100' + to the sides.

You can see the fish in the OFF image but SI Enhance makes it much easier to see each individual fish...

This image of crappie suspended in a creek channel. Was watching them being caught as I was idling into a creek to work on the bass.

I agree that the higher the enhance goes, the more grainy it gets, BUT there are times when it needs to be turned up to see the fish. Depending on sun conditions, there may not be optimum view on screen. They are not always as pretty as they appear on a computer screen.
