ethanol in gas
once again boat motor in the shop with fuel problems and carbs.the boat shop call and said they found water in carbs and in fueltank they said that with the ethanol in the gas it is drawing the moisture.they told me to start using QT or SHELL GAS they found that have lower ethanol rating, they also told me that they reports are showing that a 2 letter gas company has a high rating of ethanol in their fuel as much as 15% plus and this is mid-grade fuel, and i do run stablizer in my fuel.anybody else having problems...

1waterdog- If you have a couple of spare hours, this link is a pretty informative and interesting read. I haven't had problems yet with my outboard, but gas powered string trimmer and leaf blower have both had to have carbs replaced because of the water. I now try to run all gas out after each use.

I burnt out so many string trimmers, chain saws, and similar products that I now only buy gas for my boat motor and lawn equipment from a local marina that only sells ethonal free gas. Of course, I have to pay almost a dollar more a gallon. But, when I bought my new boat motor, I decided to not risk using anything but ethanol free gas.

My local shell sells Ethanol free, it's the premium grade. Caseys is the low grade.

Premium only for my Yamaha, 93 octain and no troubles for 10 years so far.

In some small towns you can go to your local municipality airports and buy your fuel from them for your weed eaters, chainsaws and your small outboards. You will pay more at the pump, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Howys in Sullivan Advertises 100% Gasoline. I do not know if that is true or not. I think it is only in the 93% octane grade. That ethanol can really mess up all kinds of things. Have you looked at using marine grade stabil or some kind of fuel additives. They also make fuel filter system for your outboard that eliminates the water.

Try this fuel treatment. Its alot better and cheaper than sta-bil. Ive been using it for a while in all my lawn equipment and outboard with no problems at all. http://mystarbrite.com/startron/

Been using Startron for awhile now and like it better than the marine Stabil. Did a comparison test using Startron and the marine stabil with an ethanol test kit and the Startron got rid of all the alcohol where there was still a trace with the stabil.
