what would you buy......
if you had between 500 and 800 to spend on a depth finder/gps combo what would you choose? gps is a must. color would be nice but not tops on the list. I am in the begining stages of learning about em so I can make a good decision, just looking for some input. pretty much set on a lowrance or humminbird (not looking to start a debate on who's better, they both seem to make good units to me). I currently use an eagle fish elite 480 that will be moved to a trolling motor mount, my current trolling motor unit will be retired, humminbird tcr-id10, and the new unit will be put near the drivers area. if any one has any good threads/web pages on watts ,cone deg, etc that would be great also. tahnks for any input, have a blessed week all, God bless.

You could pick up a used 700 series SI in that range.

I bought the Humminbird 385ci for $400 and the navonics chip for my area for $150. The GPS and Fishfinder is exactly the same as the 997 just doesnt have SideImaging. Check it out next time your at BPS. I have been thrilled with mine, Shows the depth contours and you can set grids off of a waypoint for trolling. Also a neat function you can enter waypoints and use different symbols for trees, ramp, etc. And if you hit the info button while your curser is over a waypoint it will tell you the depth of water and the date it was saved (Handy for planning a trip)

Just put a 788ci on the TM and the 385ci on the console. Both are working great and have some good features. 788 was around 650.00 and the 385 was 400.
