Elk in Missouri?
So what do you think? MDC is wanting to reintroduce elk in Missouri. I really don't like the idea unless MDC is willing to pay for fence damage and damage to people who hit them with their cars or trucks.
MDC says they are going to put them in areas with very few roads and limited agricultural activity. So what if one gets out in another area is MDC going to go on a elk round up? I bet they don't.
Anyway we have up until October 1, 2010 to make comments.

I kind of like the idea, but in the long run it depends on how they are managed. Peck Ranch is very isolated and Elk are a herd oriented animal, so doubt if they will roam too far unless a young bull gets pushed out of the herd.
It would be nice if the herd flourished and they had draw hunts to keep the numbers in check. Heck, I wouldn't even have to buy another rifle! My 'ol 7mm magnum would do quite nicely. I would imagine by the time they increased enough in numbers to be hunted I would be to stinkin' old and decrepit to go after one:( Be nice for the younger guys and future generation hunters though

All I can see is a freezer full of meat!!!:D

I like the idea, Kentucky has had them for years with no big problems. I would rather hunt them in my own state, rather than going out west. :)

I would like to hunt for them if they were here but would deffinently wouldn't want to hit one!!!
A buddy of mine drives a truck and he sent me pics of one he hit in Colorado
IT wasn't pretty tore the heck out of his rig!!!

Yeah and just think what a elk will do to a pickup. I have been looking at those deer up in North Missouri and Iowa. And those darn deer up in North Missouri look really big in the middle of the night just standing along the side of the road. I don't think my cattle guard is going to help much if I hit one.
