Black and blue is ALWAYS a good color for me. And nothing's wrong with a contrasting head either. Your son did good, and so did you.:)
ya i thought about the jig color, but thats all i have right now. i am waiting to see what happens with the ban before i make my first purchase
Nice! Your catching on quick.
That'll work. Good lookin tie.
Ya want to know how to clean the eyes even if it's cured? I use a spare bodkin that has a little smaller needle that others, but I heat the it good and stick it through and it will melt the paint out. Then just clean it up some. Don't want sharp paint edge cutting your line.
Thanks for the compliments guys. Good advice skip, I never thought aboutsharp paint cutting the line
I don't know about the tying aspect, and I'd just punch a spare hook through the eye paint....but the contrasting head is the only way to go. I think people match too much. I use an orange or orange variation head on almost everything. If its not an orange head...pink or chartreuse......then compliment your water or day with like colors in the body and tail.
two fish with one stone
I like it! Pat your son on the back for me.

For cleaning the eyes,I've been using a jig eye buster for almost 20 years and it still works.Cost $3 at Cabela's. It's cleaned tens of thousands of painted heads. Bodkin will work also but the eye buster is faster, using a spare hook will dull that hook and I don't want any dull hooks laying around, might accidently end up on the end of my line.
Josh.....
Be sure to keep all your "first jigs"..and you will see how you have improved over time...I look at mine and laugh !!.:D..But..it was a good learning experience !!...
Keep up the good work..!!
