There were posts on a "death star" back in 2005, which I thought was so amazing. It is basically a PVC structure, with a special hub at the middle of the "star".

If I was going to spend money on one of those, I'd use Rain or Shine PVC glue and put a self tapping sheet metal screw or 2 in each coupling to make sure it stayed together and lasted a long time.
the "Death Stars" were something else :p
The biggest problem was the plastic "hub" wasn't strong enough to hold PVC pipe that was much longer than those that came with it (in the pkg deal). That lead to people using screws and/or glue to help hold them together ... while others came up with other "items" to use in place of the plastic hub. This was especially true for those that were using PVC spikes (pipe) that were longer than the package deal ones.
I know of one member that made a few Death Stars with 4ft long PVC poles :eek: ... but he doesn't frequent the site much, anymore, so I don't know how well they worked or how long they've lasted (or if they have).
With old plastic gal milk jugs, pop crates, bowling balls, soccer balls, basketballs, coffee cans, and a whole mess of other "items" being used as alternatives to the purchased plastic hub ... and most of them being free, or cheaper than the "hubs" ... I'm amazed that the product line is still being sold :eek: :D
