I wana hear your guys and gals reason, for why tying jigs and flies is so addicting.????
I think it is addicting because of all the different material that is out there for tying. I will receive an order and someone will post a pic and I want to try to tie one like pictured. Need more material!! My tying station needs to be bigger already and I'm always seeing other things I want for tying more jigs. I don't have to depend on someone else to tie a color I want. I can use as much hair or feathers as I want in my jigs and add flash til I like the looks.
OK, I'll stop now. Need to make another order anyways!
You're tying which makes it all the better when you catch something on it. You made it it wasn't store bought.
You have the ability to tie up any color combo no matter how odd ball it is when the fish want it!!
The above also work in your favor that no one else will have (unless they tie too) anything you can think of to tie up.

I tie as a hobby... It's a way for me to express my creativity in a functional way. Some of my ties are "full circle". Meaning I go hunt birds, pick the feathers, process them, and then use them on flies and jigs that then catch fish. THAT, to me, is way cool!
I think it is your own way of making something better then the time before.Mine all started because I had to buy a couple of bucktails while deep sea fishing one time, they were expensive and to me looked like crap. That's when it all started and I never turned back, lol.
Every snice I was young My Dad told Me You can never buy lures as good as you can make them! and You can match the fishes needs for the moment mass Producers can not do this.Indiviguals like Ourselves are driven to be successful every time We go out not ounce in awhile and when the bad days come as they do We know We had the best to offer! We also know We can always improve seems I learn something new every other day!
My internal motor runs pretty quick, and I'd rather take a beating than sit around the house bored and watching TV all day. Winter months are the worst for me. A few years back I played with the small caliber rifles and reloading my ammo to punch cloverleaf targets at 100 yds or more. That worked OK til the cold weather set in, and explosives don't come in the house. Too cold in the shed, so I was back to watching the tube. I began reading about tying, and got a good start with a vise from another member, and y'all know the rest. After tying jigs that catch fish better than anything I can buy, there's no turning back. I've sold a few but that's not my primary motive. It keeps me busy, in the a/c and heat, and putting fish in the boat. I've worked with my hands most of my life and like seeing a finished product with my name on it. I've also met quite a few good people on this forum that I look forward to talking with. Tight lines, Y'all.
Skip and Ship said ..Try it....you can stop anytime......yeah right....:D
OH but I always warn about the addictive nature of this right? I know this first hand since I have some tendencies to buying too much stuff anyway before tying ever got into it. However this is a whole new level of buying. I would shock many of you here if you knew how much money I have in materials and still buying for crying out loud.Quote:

Some people do paintings, not me, I suck at painting. But tying a nice jig is a work of art that I can do. It's nice to look at the jig when you finish and feel proud. It's even better to catch fish or have your friends, and in some of your cases, customers, catch fish on them. I guess that's why I'm addicted.
