"Flank" tails

While waiting on cooler water and weather I am getting some test jigs ready also.

Stump Hunter when does it get cool there? Sheesh we just got to the hot now. I wish I could even think about cool weather and will probably be October before we get cool unless something strange happens as it does every once in a while.

Skip, it has been hot here since April so at times I forget that we have a longggg time before fall ;) Will have lots of jigs by then :D
I'll keep pulling cranks until it cools down to at least 80 :) It got down to 78 the other night and I was looking for frost!!

One cool thing about mallard flank the guys on the fly tying boards say it's real easy to dye. Some talked about walnut husks, tea, coffee for natural colors.

I really like the 4th and 5th one the left and the 4th one on the right. The rest look good too, need to dig out my mallard feathers and tie some again.

I've never tried duck flank in combination with the chenille,but those look great. Flank feathers are easy to dye,been dying a lot of my own for about five years,using Cushings perfection dyes. I buy gallon size bags of mallard flank,trim the fluff,wash and throw it in a pot,heat ,add dye and BAM,dyed feathers.Actually,I put the feathers in after dye is dissolved completely.Otherwise da feathers may turn out speckled.
