runs fine gets up on plane and then the motor starts to cut out. pulled carbs cleaned all of them, plugs are fine, replaced fuel filter. yesterday while having issues squeezed the prime ball and there was no difference in the way it ran. Motor is a 1984 and has had no problems in the past. I can run at 2/3 to 3/4 throttle all day long with no problems anything above that I run the risk of the motor shutting down completely.
Check your tank vent and make sure its wide open. Also check you fuel line and especially primer bulb for cracks. They must be soft and pliable. Check fuel line fittings.
tanks are fine replaced some of the hardware eariler even a new tank. Fuel line is pristine.
I had a problem like that , decarbed the engine and switched to amsoil, it didn't help. Then i happen to notice that on the vent screw there is a littlle fiber gasket that goes up with the vent screw, it had worn enough that it would vibrate down and block the vent. It drove me nuts for two weeks,removed the gasket, that was 2 years ago, no problem since.

how was it running before you replaced the hardware......if the answer is OK then I suspect you are sucking air from somewhere between the tank and motor......check all your fittings for a damaged O ring and the connections at the primer bulb.....if you are getting the slightest bit of air it will shut down on the high end.....like it is running out of gas....I always carry a spare primer bulb on board.....double check the vent on the tank.....hope you find the problem as this does get aggrevating...Quote:

I purchased a boat that carried 2 six gallon tanks and ran good. I wanted a bigger tank instead of the 2 tank system. I ordered a new 9 gallon tank through the shop I let do my work on my boats. He said he could save me shipping charges which was about Fifteen Dollars as his supplier would not charge any shipping. I installed the new tank and also new bulb and line with a new tank outlet valve on tank where the line plugs in. Carried to lake and cranked good. I opened the throttle and just got on plane and the motor quit like you just cut the switch. I had water coming over back of boat. Cranked right back up and I give it another try and same results. After worrying with gas lines and connections, I decided to put one of the old tanks back in and it done great. I got my money back on tank and ordered the same tank from BPS. Installed and everything works great. Do not know the problem with the tank but it was a defect in tank. Both tanks are idential made by Moeller. Might be your problem. Bottombumper
