Waxing & Polishing

I have a fiberglass boat and I was think about polishing it and waxing, one of the stripes is fading a some. Can someone tell me the do's and don'ts or am I wasting my time. Is there a difference between car wax and boat wax.

If the gel coat is fading I would take it to a fiberglass specialist and get their opinion of how to proceed. I always just used a good auto paste wax on mine.

Fading or oxidizing?

Once the gel coat starts to really go, you almost have to wet sand it to bring it back.

Thanks for the answers. I don;t think it is bad enough so sand yet.
