Oologah Today
With the water up over 7' above normal pool, a good friend of mine and I went out and put in at Vada point to jig for some crappie. Some of our normal areas were too deep to hold fish and we struck out and tried some other places. Two spots produced 27 keepers for with the biggest being close to 2lbs. Fish were caught from 6' below the surface down to about 14' in about 15fow. My next trip out will be below the dam this Saturday or Sunday chasing a few mississippi whites with my daughters. All in all, I thought we did alright with the sudden rise of the lake.

I'm impressed for sure! With the water coming up sort of fast I was planning on going to Ft Gibson, and then I heard about the Bass Masters being moved there from the river. Now...........hm...........
Hope you didn't get caught in the storm this afternoon.

Nope, storm skirted us to the south. I'm of the opinion the crappie are still holding in brush in the same depths they have been and that they've just moved to new brush in the 14 -18 fow area. So, if you know of any brush that normally is about 7' down, it'll now be 14' down. Fish it! Some of those corps brushpiles in Spencer Creek that the Bass fisherman set out very shallow, could be holding some big ol Crappie right now.

I had a similar day yesterday Reaper. I took Meatdraggers advise and after figuring out how, I entered a bunch of brushpiles from the corp site. I put in Tuesday at Redbud but had electrical issues and had to work on the boat all day. Girlfriend and I put in at Blue Creek yesterday morning and started fishing the brushpiles. We caught crappie at almost every pile we stopped at using minners. We did the best at 14-16 fow fishing 12-14 ft deep. We had to have caught well over 100 but only kept 35 that were keepers. Majority in the 10-14 inch range. Something bit me and commenced to stripping all the line off my reel. I put a little more pressure on the drag and it straightened my little wire hook out and pulled off before I could see it. We came in when we saw lightning but never got caught in any weather. I commented to my girlfriend that the water clarity was still fairly good in spite of all the rain we had. Good luck to all and thanks to the guys on this site for helping us amateur part timers out!.

35 keepers ain't too shabby Froggie! After a few trips out you will start to learn which piles produce more and bigger fish and you can focus on those. I'll take 35 keepers any day!

THAT..........is a good day.

Thanks Meatdragger & Coyote, I cant wait till my days off next week and try it again. We're gonna try to focus on finding larger fish next trip. We had a lot of shorter fish. Looking at Meatdraggers picture again I'm drooling over the number of true slabbers those kids are grining over...lol. I thing I have my electrical issues figured out but only another trial run will tell. ;)
