Lake Ohop

Quick report. We went to Ohop yesterday and fished from about 3:30pm to 9pm. The fishing was red hot. Caught more fish than I could or would want to keep track of:). Not many large fish. Most were 7-9" with about 15 going 10" or better. We were catching fish on back to back cast when the sun started to go down.

Took a couple guys out that have never caught crappie. They are hooked now! If you guys get a chance....head out there soon. They are on beds in 3 to 11' of water. Jigs 1 to 2' under a small float was killing them.

Yeah dude. Those fish are really healthy. I was kinda worried when I heard they killed off the lilly pads a few years ago. But I think just like Silver Lake...the pads being removed exposed more of the wood and the crappie population has exploded. Even the average size has gone up from it used to be. It's turning into a great crappie lake now. Good luck at Brownlee. My next door neighboor went down about a month ago and brought back about 100. They said they caught 75 - 200 fish a daybetween four people. Just crazy numbers.

Thanks for the info. I have a 3yr old that I'm going to take there Friday to try and get him his first solo fish :-D Wish me luck in finding them!!

I fished Harts a couple weeks ago and had 8 or 9 small crappie's before I started bass fishing...

what's up fellas, nice to read about someone catching crappiees. no such luckk for me this year, only been over to mar don so far (water was still high, problably another month or so before it comes down, hoipefully it warms up at least). i would like to get down to hewitt park this summer, so if someone needs another body to share expenses and driving i am here. slab you tha man, i met a couple of guys on this site at silver lake a year or so ago, any ways tight lines

Yea, I'm still around, just so busy with the kids growing up and in sports, work, the band, trying to fish occasionally, it gets crazy.

I still jump on here once in awhile to see how you guys are doing or what your discussing. Good to see you still around as well. We'll have to hook up and fish this summer, I really want to head to Brownlee sometime this summer.

Hi, I'm new to this board. I'm mostly an avid walleye fisherman. But on occasion trying to search out those slabs too. But I must say for fishing all my life those slabs keep avoiding me in any kind of numbers. For example. Me the wife and grand kids went to Ohop on 6/12 to try for those almighty slabs you keep showing off :) We tried different spots all the way up the lake. Noticed 4 boats anchored around the inlet area. So we chimmed in and stayed until dusk. NOTHING abosolutely nothing. NOBODY was catching anything. It was like the lake was totally dead. I didn't even mark anything. The closest thing anybody got to any kind of fish was a dead bull head floating on top of the water. Do the fish have a cave to hide in or something. Or is it just a timing thing I'm lacking.

With the crazy weather this year those fish may have still been out in 20' of water when you went. Most years they would have been on the banks in pretty good numbers by then. We used to catch them in 4' of water on Opening Day if the weather was "normal" that year. The fish are just now spawning in good numbers....it's waaaayyyy later then it should be but they are spawning.

If you head out soon try for them really shallow and in the thickest brush you can find near the shore.
