River/camping - Change of pace

This weekend I didn't go to the lake and do any crappie fishing, but I did go camping with my brothernlaw and we floated the river saturday. We got a late start floating. Started at almost 12 and floated till almost 5 pm before we arrived back at our campsite. It was sunny and hot but we still managed to catch some redeye bass and I caught 1 pretty nice smallmouth. Honestly the objective was to float and relax and enjoy the view. We sure enjoyed the weekend fishing and camping.Had some great food too. :D

I guessed that Smallmouth at 3.5 lbs but didnt weigh it. I am a big boy so the fish does not probably look to you as big as it did from my eyes.lol Anyway, I wanted to say I caught it on my ultralight dockshooting rod 5 foot that I carried to have in the small boat on river and with 4 lb test line. I was using a 1/32 jig with squirrel hair tail on it.I took my time fighting him to wear him down.

looks like you guys had a great time.good fishing and good eats, that makes for a great weekend,hard to beat that.

Nice fish, GCF!!! Nothing like a smallie on ultralight tackle, huh! When I was at MTSU (a hundred years ago), I used to skip afternoon classes :D and wade in the Stones River. I had a fly rod rigged for bluegill (4lb test, and a fine wire cricket hook). Hung a smallmouth once, not as big as yours, probably a little shy of 2 lbs. That was the most fun I have ever had landing a single fish!!!

Nice job on the smallie. You did not get in one of those canoe things did you? OMG the danger! Maybe the water was not deep. How did it feel without the electronics?

No I wasnt in a canoe. I have one of those Bass Hunter boats, 10 footer, which is what we used. I do have a depth finder for it and it was in the boat, but I didnt hook it up saturday.Pretty long float and 1 battery so I just didnt want the power drain. Good thing too cause I was pretty low on battery when we reached the campsite.:cool:

Looks like fun. The smallies are fun on small tackle. Haven't drifted in years.

Nice set up! Sure does beat paddling and gets you a little higher than the snakes. I hope you had a snake fighting pole with you on your trip. I know that they are there.
