gill question....
I recently tried for the 1st time for some gills on the beds and had a blast (posted a diff thread in this section), now it may be a silly question and I know its not an exact thing, but usally how long do they stay on the beds? also what temps does this bite usally start? I have never really targeted big gills, but man I wanna start. Im not new at all to fishing, but very new to targeting gills of any size, so any pointers, methods, lures etc, any advice is welcome. we started out using wax worms, but was going through em pretty fast so I switched to a small jig (pictured below) so that my son could use the rest of the wax worms. thanks in advance for any tips or info, have a great week yall, God bless
heres the little jig that worked well for me, will be intrested to see what you all use.

A day or 2 before the full moon & a day or 2 after a full moon is prime times durin the summer months (they will be spawnin each full moon durin these months).
Im new to jigs myself but use 1/64 & smaller & usually tip wif a meal worm or piece of nite crawler.
Stay after them wif ul tackle & you will have a blast & will your son!!!

I think you are on the right track. and as mentioned any micro sized tackle like the plastics you have pictured or hair jigs work great to. Gills are a great fish for a dad and son to target they are easy to find and when you do you will have hours of fun.

Agree with what the other guys have said. I'll just add that gill fishing is good year 'round. Most people, however, ignore them if they're not on the beds.
I fish the beds, but I don't focus on it. I know that once the spawn is over, I'll have the fish all to myself.

Bluegill - You will also find the bluegill on the beds during the dark phase of the moon too.

Bluegill is right on the mark as to the best time to catch them. My favorite bait is crickets.
