the signal through the hull on a fiberglass boat?
A friend of mine bought one of these units and I know he didn't read any of the manuals. Now he wants me to figure out why his picture is a little fuzy.
I know he glued the ducer to the hull and that's all I know.
I'm just looking for some feed back before I go over to his place and try to figure out what to do.

Your return with a glued ducer should be somewhat less than straight off the transom, but it shouldn't produce a "fuzzy" image. If indeed it is "fuzzy", he's got other problems.
By shooting through the hull, you're reducing the signal being put into the water somewhat and also reducing the signal detection by the unit somewhat due to the signal having to travel through the hull on both the out and the in. The result, for example, would be a baitfish would not produce a return on the screen for a shoot through vs a transom mount with all else being equal. Truth is, in real life, there isn't 1 out of a hundred around here that could detect the difference if they weren't told which was mounted to the boat beforehand.
Now, if he's gotten bubbles in the epoxy when he mounted it, that might give a terrible signal return and give him other problems to boot, but again, the image wouldn't be "fuzzy" due to that.
I suspect what he probably means is the image is cluttered and he's got the sensitivity turned up too high or the declutter turned off.

I'm sure the screen or menu is probably similar to my X-15. I'll just have to see what it says or even see what his screen looks like.
I like Jason's idea of taking some pic of the screen and putting it on here.
Now I just have to make some time to do it.
if you guys have a friend, that has a hds unit with the transducer mounted to the transom. it just takes about 5 minutes to remove one unit and replace it with the other. that would be a good way to check and see, if it's the unit or the transducer making the screen fuzzy.if the unit is clear using your friends transducer. that would mean your transducer isn't working right. if it's still cluttered then it's the unit thats bad or needs adjusted.Quote:
