Hull repair?

Guess I musta hit one to many stumps with the boat. I was washing it yesterday and noticed that I had some hull missing. OUCH. It's in a spot that will hit the surface when I get it on plane and it's on a ridge that's on the boat that sticks up bout 1/2 inch. It's bout 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. What do they make to fix the hull like that

You can get a fiberglass repair kit at any NAPA Auto Parts store.

Sounds like you got a strake. This would be a protrusion from the hull to aid in water flow and stability while running or in turns.

The damaged area will have to be ground out until you get to good material, and then feathered back to a dish shape. You apply patches of wetted fiberglass mat or cloth until you get close to the original level, then use a stiff resin or an epoxy with a fairing additive (stuff in it to make it easy to sand) and smooth it out to the desired shape.

Clean off any blushing and scuff slightly and spray with gelcoat to match. Not an easy job to do upside down.

In lieu of all this, you can apply an epoxy patch to it and fair it down to a reasonable shape. You will have to protect from UV rays or it will discolor.

I have a few small chunks out of my hull, and I just use a good two part marine epoxy to make the repairs.

You can use the stuff NAPA sells, if you're used to working with bondo, but it should be reinforced a bit with some glass mat. Its not as strong nor flexible on it's own without the mat. I find it too thick and too hard to work with personally.

The fiberglass kits that I referred to at NAPA are for boats....they come with pieces of mat etc as well as the resin etc.

Fiberglass is not the answer. Go on line and check out Marine Tec. They have a material for all types of repairs and is very easy to work with. You can purchase it in small quantities. Good luck.
