i recently ordered spools of flat waxed thread for jig/fly tying,and it hasn't arrived yet.im currently using my moms sewing threads for my jigs.does flat waxed thread for tying work better?does it allow easier whip finishing?the sewing threads can be a pain to use,and especialy to whip finish.they break real easily.when tightening the thread completing the whip finish,the sewing thread sometimes gets hung up,and i have to mess with it,and unwrap a few times to get it going.
Besides jig tying I also tie flies. Sewing thread in the right denier is okay, BUT it is as you said a pain in the butt!!!!!!!! Until your stuff comes in use it to make some to go fishing but I'd hold off with large tying projects till the real stuff gets there.
You are going to be SO much HAPPIER when you tie with it.

It is different and yes better. Especially when dealing with flies and things where you want the thread to be flat. What you ordered will be governed by the denier or size of the thread.

Stick with flat waxed nylon. You will not regret it.

i forget what exact size i ordered but its danville brand,and i ordered.this may have been it here,because i remember all the different color selections it has https://www.docsflybox.com/sunshop/i...t_detail&p=917 .all of the jigs i've made so far were done with the sewing threads.it just makes sense to have the correct tying threads for tying.i bet it will be so much easier with them.i coated the threads on some of my jigs with a good amount of sally hansen teflon tuff 2 in 1 base & top coat clear nail polish after a good whio finish.that seems to protect the thread really good!when i started tying jigs,i didn't know about whip finishing,and after catching a lot of fish on them,the threads started to unwind from the jig on some of them.since i'm used to the whip finish now,threads haven't unwound off my jigs.the sally hansen helps good too.
