Wayyyyyyyyyy off topic even for off topic
I'd like to find a housebroken, short-haired dog with a friendly/gentle disposition for my 86 year old mother. My dad has recently had to go into a nursing home and she's really depressed and lonely and loves dogs. Do any of you know someone that has something cheap? Free would be nice. I'd drive 100 miles or so for the right pooch. PM me please if you know of anything that might "fit" her.
Well, I may have hit the jackpot
Time will tell. Called "MY" vet this week and told him the situation of me wanting a dog for my Mom. He had a "found" dog that no one had claimed for over a week. He contacted the police, animal control, checked the bulletin boards at the quick stop and the grocery store. No one reported a missing dog. Kind of under the weather when he first got her. Appears to be approx. 4 months old, possible LhasoApso/Poodle combo. He called me this a.m. to drive up & take a look at her. I walked up to her crate and she cowered in the back at first till I started talking to her and she started wagging her tail and came to the front and put her paw up on the door so he let her out. She trotted right over to me and put a paw up on my leg. Followed me around his place till I sat down, then she put a paw up on my leg again. I put her on my lap, she turned around twice, laid down in my lap and put her head on my arm and let out a big sigh. SO, she has passed both the "friendly" and the "lap-dog" test. Since then she has passed the "leash-walking", "riding in the truck" and the "using the facilities" test. I had to bring her to work with me and when I opened the crate door, she trotted right in and laid down and is sleeping. SO
could she be the perfect pet for my Mom? It certainly seems that way. :)
Thanks to those of you who sent me PM's and offered me great advice on how to proceed. You guys are AWESOME! THANK you very much! :)
