Ifn this feller was like my granddad then yes he's right. He used a paddle, which is louder and fer a depth finder he would stick his pole in the water til it hit bottom, subtract the mud line from the length of the pole and then subtract the wet part if the pole from the mudline equation and he would have his depth. Now for what I think, no I don't think it matters.
