Don't know anything about that vise, but over the last few years the Danvise has been considered the best true rotary vise under $100. So I would be cautious personally, but that is just me being me maybe. I would think better of it for that price if it was not a rotary. So can't say one way or the other and if you want that one I say get it, but know going in that is not a brand every one knows.
yeah skip that is what i was thinking. not name brand but if it would work for an introductory vise to get me started, thought it would be worth the money. I looked it up on google, there are some guys in north carolina that are using it and they like it pretty good. might be ok to get started with.
It may well be, but it is just one I can't say anything about without knowing more. I can't just say it's good because of the price if you know what I mean. Anything I say that is good I know something about like the Thompson vise I know is good and lots of people use them for many years and even though it's not a rotary they still love them. Even a Thompson not being a rotary would probably cost you $40-$50, but then look at lit like this; if you decide you don't like tying it would be easier to sell one that has a name people know and Thompson does have that. Just want to give you something to think about and not trying to say you need to buy a Peak for $143 just to have a vise that works. Just the opposite, I think you are smart to try with a less costly vise to start in case you don't like it and many buy the stuff, tie a few and never pick it up again. Not everyone likes tying even though it looks like something you would like.
If it was me I would prefer buying a vise people know so I could go to most any tying board and sell it if I didn't like the tying thing.
Skip
This is what I bought and I have "0" problem with it.
"NEW" TRUE ROTARY DANVISE FLY TYING FISHING FLIES VISE - eBay (item 330426011941 end time Apr-27-10 15:48:22 PDT)
I wouldn't take my money back. I have tied maybe 250 jigs in the last 6 months. If all you do is tie for yourself it should last for years. It is mostly a composite material except the jaws but tough as nails. If you don't stay with the tying, I bet you can sell it on ebay and not lose too much, but if you fish a lot you probably will hang with it.
Bid $35.00 and if you get it,good deal.If not,oh well.
good advice skip we started out with a $10 vice many years ago when I was a kid. Since then I've bought to Thompson's and we still have them today. But unfortunately I stepped up regal I enjoyed this vice tremendously. You were right about one thing skip people know the name Thompson and it would definitely sell without no problem if you got tired of using it .
Besides tying jigs I also tie flies, and I've read alot of comments from folks who bought it for starters and wish they hadn't. For the extra money I'd get the Danvise and if you don't like it you can easily sell it to someone else on the board or on ebay.
We can all give you advice but you ultimately have to make the decision. Good Luck whichever way you go!!!
