Results / 7 days on High Rock
Well, unfortunately my 7 day vacation on the Rock is over. Averaged 10 hours a day on the water, now thats a great vacation ! 70 hours of fishing & a really sore lower back. Wife & kids were glad to see me return home this afternoon, thank God for an understanding woman who never complains about my love for the water ! Sunday, Monday & tuesday morning were all tough days. Beat he banks & docks to scratch out a limit each day. Trolled with Chugbug on Tuesday afternoon & finally found good numbers & size. Decided to troll mornings, then dock fish afternoons the rest of the week. Caught alot of fish trolling, 15 - 20 per hour, many small ones, but got a limit each morning by trolling 3 to 4 hours. After getting a limit, I'd return to docks just for fun. Trolling bite was consistent from 8 to 20 feet in 25' depth. Fish are very scattered. Almost all the trolling bites were white crappie full of eggs. Should be wide open on the banks next weekend, with the moon coming full this week. Fished Abbotts & Second Creek all week.
Dock bites were tough to come by, only pattern I could repeat was that fish seemed to be tight on the middle posts, right on the bottom, 4' to 5' deep. Had to actually vertical jig very slowly, right beside the posts.
Saturday I trolled Abbotts from 8 till 12 with 55 crappie, 1 largemouth & a best ever for me, 27" 10lb catfish, landed on a 14' W.M. tightline special, 4lb stren line, 1/16 oz jig with acid rain curly tail. That one took a while, boats were actually stopping & watching the fight ! Acid Rain & John Deere Green were definitely the colors of choice. Thanks to Nat & PopPop for the good company at dinner Monday night & great to see both of you out on the water.
I need a vacation like that
I know you had a good time.
