Boat trailer tire??????

Had a blow out yesterday on my way home from Bucksaw. Trailer has 205-75-14 on it. Spare had never touched the ground. But I would like to buy two new tires and put the spare back. Any suggestions on what to buy? I see a lot of them have a load rating but not sure what I would need for mine. 18 1/2 ft Champion with a heavy 175 hp motor on it on a single axle trailer. Just went out and looked at the ones I have on it. The ones that are on it say load rated C and says for upto 1760 lbs. Is this enough? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Jared, being in the auto business, we have access to a ton of tire suppliers. Without question, wheather they sell them or not, they all recommend Towmaster tires. When I bought my boat in 07 I took the original tires off and replaced with Towmaster radials. I have never had an issue and I would recommend them without hesitation. Just my .02 worth.

Thanks for the quick response and PM. I will check with my uncle's shop and my wife has a cousin in Appleton City also with a tire shop. I have heard the Towmaster was a good tire. That is what I put on my pop-up camper a few years back.

Jared, be sure they are a trailer rated radial. Some times folks look at saving money buying passenger tires, completely different application. High quality trailer tires for a boat your size should say to inflate to minimum of 50 lbs, do it. Single biggest cause of pre mature trailer tire wear is under inflation.

My Champion trailer came with Goodyears. I was rolling to Minisoda up I35 just north of DesMoines. Had stopped at a truck stop there, gassed up and, as always, felt each wheel for heat and eyeballed tires and hookup. Looked fine, felt fine.
About 25 miles north of DesMoines, running 70 mph, the right rear tire lost the entire tread. It whacked the fender and bent it in against the tire (what was left of it, not much), Cleaned off the rear marker light and bent up the trailer frame where the taillight mounts, killed the tail light. Also whacked the bottom of the boat and put a whopper ding in the gel coat. Truman Fiberglass did a real nice job on it.
Had to replace the fender and part of the trailer frame, lights, wiring, tire.
It has BFG TA Radials on it now and they are doing well.
Not to say next trip.......................................... :cool:

Thanks for the advise guys. The tires that are on it say trailer use only. I may check prices on the Towmaster brand.

you might check out warehouse tire, I am pretty sure that they ahve a shop in Clinton and I know they have 2 in Sedalia. I know the owner, heck of a guy and great to do business with. I have bought two sets of tires from him so far, he beat the prices of everyone else even the big internet places and he wasn't throwing in a "Buddy" price.

I will check them out. Walmart only has the Good Year Marathon trailer tires. $100 a peice. Will have to keep looking I guess.

My opinion on Goodyear tires at Wal can not be posted on a family oriented forum!:mad::mad::mad: Been through a total of 10 tires in the last year and am still having problems. Belts separated on all of them and one so badly that it blew one on the interstate. Thank goodness I was driving and managed to keep control the vehicle
