Caught this in Yates Mill Pond today when I went out there to check it out. It is hard to tell from the picture, but it had a fat belly that looked full of eggs.

i dont see a picture, but my first guess would have to be a "warmouth" they look like a cross and very tasty!!!
I agree with pete or it maybe a shellcracker... but don't see any pic?
Before everybody claims this fish is probably a warmouth I'm gonna' say that yes there can be crappie-bluegill hybrids. The pond at the house where I grew up had some in it. It seemed they were around for a about 3-4 years and then never caught anymore. These fish were definatley hybrids. The shape was kind of in between a crappie and bluegill and the colr was like both fish's colors overlapping with a crappie mouth. I've caught tons a of warmouths and these were not that.
If its from the piedmont, its most likely a warmouth.
Sorry about the lack of a picture. I was in a rush and thought it had attached but apparently it was bigger than the allowed size. Should work this time.
after reading some of the responses, it looks like it could be a warmouth. Do warmouths have big mouths like crappie? The fins and tail also seem to have the spots similar to those of crappie. Ya'll can see the pictures now so I am sure one of ya'll has the answer.
Looks like a shellcracker.
Doesnt have the red tip on the gill flaps..so isnt a redear aka shellquacker.
Looks like a warmouth to me,they hit & fight like a train & taste delicous as well.
