Humminbird 565 Questions...

I just bought a new Humminbird 565 from our good buddy Wal-Mart BUT they did not have the box and attachments for it so I opted for a substitute - the box and contents from a Humminbird 550.

Why?

Well, I got the 565 for a little over a $100 on clearance and both of the models are dual and when I called Humminbird they said using the transducer from the 550 would work...

However, I have never owned a Fish Finder and am hesitant to go about installing this blind without some counsel and that is why I am here!

Anyway, has anyone ever used a Humminbird 565 and how did they mount it?

Also, any feedback OR suggestions are appreciated!

as with about any finder or i should say with me i would mount it where you can see it anytime you want from about any position on the boat . mostly just to keep an eye on your depth so you can stay on the dropoffs and ledges . they are really simple to mount and hookup the cords all fit in the bracket in thier correct location kinda fool proof .
the only thing that can be just a tad tricky and when i say tad means if you can do anything at all with your hands it's simple. there should be instructions about mounting the transducerif putting it on the boat but may have to buy a mount if installing it on the trolling motor.

i have a 525 on the back of the boat just to watch where i'm going sometimes gotta follow the river channel and on the troller i have a 575 hummingbird and i like them both simple to use and work real well.

I was really worried that the transducer that came in the 550 box would not work with the 565 as one is single and the other dual but I checked again on the web site and it uses the same one. I guess all the work is done in the unit itself...I hope!

I was surprised to see the 565 on sale at Humminbird (direct) for $159, marked down from $199 but as I had a gift ward with WalMart, the out-of-pocket was around $30 so it was a no-brainer.

Now, I just have to make sure it works after all it was in the display case but it did still have its plastic screen protector on the front of it so I am hoping it wasn't out on display outside the case (it looks very clean)...

The boat I have is a 14' Smoker Craft (Model 1472) that is basically a fishing/hunting boat. High sides (22") and wide - almost 72" wide. It is camo'ed and in pretty good condition - LINK

I hope to get it out this weekend but it will be my first time ever!!!

It has a 15HP Johnson that is in pretty good shape too.

My concerns are many as I have never had my own boat like this and do not know the first thing about upkeep, maintenance, etc. But I digress (as usual).

I may have the book for a 565 and possibly a TM mount transducer. Let me take a look and see what I got out there.

That’s the same transducer for both units settler so no worries there. You are correct in that the difference is in the unit itself: both the unit and the transducer have to be capable. That’s why we have so many possible combinations of units using other transducers. The transducer you have should mount the same way the DualBeam transducers for most of our products mount with the exception being the Side Imaging and 3D sonar units we have made. So anyone else with a Humminbird DualBeam unit – and there are many different models of them – that has mounted it on a jon-type boat should be able to help you out.

When you drill the holes for the transducer, make sure you put the screws in to seal them up!:D

When are you bringing that bad boy down south. Maybe you should actually show up for the shoot at Rend and bring it with you.

Its my goal to get this up and running so I can fish Shelbyville on Sunday so a longer trip might be in the future but let me get over my fear of boats first!

It's not the fear of boats. It's the fear of the money for boats.:eek:
