Don't know because it's going on the wall. If this one was a female, her eggs weren't mature and she'd of weighed 3 or better and it didn't have any color like the male crappie on the left. At any rate, it was 17-inches long and weight 2lbs.13ozs.

Nice fish anyway. My 2 lb 13 oz Crappie was 17'' also except it looked more like a white or maybe a cross. How can you tell a cross for shure?:confused:
It was a black crappie. She had seven dorsal spines (six for a white) and didn't have the black dot on the gill plate (another genetic trait for a white). A naturally occuring hybrid, I have read, will look similar to a black crappie (random black spots, perhaps more blotchy with a hint of a verticle pattern), have only six dorsal spines and the prominent black spot on the gill plate. This picture of a white crappie shows the gill plate spot real well. And, below that one is another big black at 2/13 that doesn't have it.Quote:

Here's pictures of hybrid crappie. In the first picture it is the crappie on the left. You can see the prominent black dot on the gill plate and the random blotchy pattern. In the second picture, it was a unique one. You can definitely see the vertical pattern but it had seven dorsal spines which is a genetic trait for a black crappie.
