My Weiss Report 3/19
I finally got to go on Friday. Absolutely beautiful day! Anyways, I fished out of Riverside and I fished every cove, hole, point and creek I knew for 10 keepers. I probably caught 50-60 short fish. The water temps started out around 50 in the morning and moved up to around 57 in the evening.
Every fish I caught was a male. Every fish was caught in at least 8 feet of water. As the day warmed, I wondered if the fish went shallow to sun but they didn't. I trolled in shallow water, trolled shallow in deep water, etc etc but to no avail. In the best spots I went to I noticed on my sonar that the fish were holding deep. Almost all of my keepers were caught about 7-8 feet deep in 10-12 feet of water. I finally found one good spot where we caught 3 or 4 keepers in 5 minutes and I thought it was on. However, boat after boat kept coming in there and the fish scattered and I had to move. There were a TON of boats everywhere.
It is my observation that as of Friday, the fish had not yet began their migration into the creeks and coves. At least not the keeper fish and the big females. From my experience, it happens this way every year. First the small fish move in, then the big males, and the big females come at the very end. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the bigger males moved in any day now with the warmer temps and all.
This year has just been weird with the extremely cold weather that went into the 1st week of March. Then we had huge rains for a week. Some of the creeks I went into were still very dingy. I probably went a week too early. I ran into two guides that I knew and one of them said they had 12 keepers and it was 2:30. Friday was a beautiful day to be on the lake but the fishing was tough. I say we need about 4-5 days of stable, warm weather and it will be on like Donkey Kong! Good luck to everybody.

I agree, great post. I was out Friday myself, and it sounds like we did about the same. It's always nice to hear fishing reports anytime, but especially when someone fished the same day you did.

Somebody once told me that the same size fish hang together, is that true?
