2000 Merc 40elpt

Ok guys first of all I'm no mechanic by any means so this may not make much sense. A couple weeks ago I took the ProCrappie out for the first time in a couple months. Had some trouble getting the motor to start, it was flooding pretty bad. Unhooked the gas line from the motor and it would start and run in high idle as soon as I hooked the gas line back up to the motor it would flood out, spit, sputter and die. As long as the gas line was hooked up it would not start. Any ideas on what might be going on here? I had the carbeurator gone through and they replaced some of the jets but it's still doing the same thing.

it sounds like, the float is sticking. and not rising, as the gas fill's the bowl. when the float works right, as the bowl fills with gas. the float rises and makes a needle shut the gas flow off. and as the motor burns what gas is in the cylinders. it makes room for the needle to lit more gas in as needed. may be the problem, or may not. but something to look at. hope this helped.:):)

Carbs need to be rebuilt using new gaskets, needle, seat and possibly floats (they need to be checked for leakage).
