Guntersville report 3/9/10

Me and 2 of my friends went this morning and ended up with
eighty-five crappie, all were giant slabs except for maybe 4 or 5 and they were 9-11 inches long. The rest were 13-15 inches long. My friends were using live minnows and I was using Bobby Garland Blue Thunder with 1/24 ounce lead head. What a day!!! Fished from 5:00am-8:00am. I caught 25 on the jig and my friends caught 30 each on the live minnows. Fished from the bank close to a bridge but not under it, in about 6-8ft of water. We got back and started the filet knife, while me and one friend were doing the cleaning, my other buddy started heating the oil in the skillet, at about 11:00AM, we cooked some of the catch and had fresh crappie sandwiches for lunch. What a way to top off a good day. God Bless.

Congrats! Making me want to hook the boat up and try again after getting skunked my last two outings.

Thanks guys, too bad next couple of days Wed. Thurs. winds out of SE, not worth going in my book, however Thursday from noon-3pm looks kinda promising but doubtful, will have to wait and see what the winds will do.

is there a rosemary creek or hollow on gunterville, I have map and can't find it.I will be fishing next monday and tues, starting in S sauty.

There's a Roseberry Creek, that used to be famous for its crappie until it was poisoned by the fine citizens of Scottsboro and the city council with a chemical known as Floridone, and this is not just your usual dose of Floridone -- that kills everything in its wake for at least 5 years--- no sir, this is a surprise version, it's 40 percent unk chemicals from China. Anyway, there's enough grass left in there to cover grampa's bald head now. It's on the other side of the river from South Sauty. Go up-river (East, northeast) past North Sauty and it's the next big cove on the north side, about 5 miles or so. Some of us locals like to call it PoisonBerry. The homeowners thereof should be firing up their inboards any day now for their first of 5 or 6 trips out into the cove, which by the way used to be the healthiest part of Guntersville Lake. They decided to change that because the weeds clogged up their motors. Sorry, there I go --- again, ranting about PoisonBerry!

Oh, by the way, if you do find one of those little patches of weeds, you can still catch crappie, and some say a lot of them, but me, I wouldn't eat them, but who knows, they may be okay. I eat them anywhere else but there.

Good catch Slabby.I think there's gonna be more 3 lb crappie caught in the Big G this year than we've heard about in years.Seems like the quality of the crappie have been better the last couple of years .
