marabou is turkey feathers. you talking about a tail feather??
I assume you are talking about a tail feather.... I used to use them alot on flies to make a shell back, but have since found some other material to do this.
ya its a tail feather :)
for flies you could, they seem to me to be to stiff..
I use them for flies but you could use them if you wanted to make jig version of say a pheasant tail nymph where you use a shell back. You can use just about anything with tying, that's what I love about tying is thinking outside of the box and altering materials and patterns. I have yet to find a single pattern that HAS to be tied only one way or it will not and if someone tells you otherwise you likely don't want to talk them anyways and they need to pull their head out their... well you know. Give it a try and see what you can come up with.
Other than the marabou the tail is best used in flies for sure. Lots of good stuff for that and you probably can copy and convert over to a jig. Probably need to just use the fibers off the tail for a jig tail??
I feel sure you can find lot of info on fly tying and fishing sites.

In the fall about 2 years ago, I'm thinking it was 'oh-fish-ul' Jig Swap 4 - maybe 5, I tied up a jig using the back feathers off a hen I took during the fall season.
If memory serves me right, it was 1/16 oz, brown chenille, brown head/white eyes, and brown hackle collar.
At the time, Flatfish was doing field trials w/ the swap jigs and did pretty well with it....
I've also used the marabou off the wild birds - a natural gray.
