A Day On The Hill (3/8/10)

I made a loop today thru Calhoun Falls to McCormick. Then to Lincolnton, finally making it back to Elberton. This included launching and fishing (SC) Little River, Soap Cr., Newford, and Pistol. I guess I spent about half the time riding and watching the graph as I did fishing. One thing I did notice was the water temps. In Little River and Soap the water was around 53-54 degrees, but in NF and Pistol it was 56-57 but ion sdhallow water (10' it was already 59 degrees this afternoon.:eek: Only problem was I wasnt seeing fish in the shallows so now what's up with that?!?:eek: The more I looked around the more I wanted my spider rods but was only carrying trolling rods today. Anyway, out of all the places I fished I managed catching 37 crappie, and about a half doz. or more stripers (which caused some ugly tangles:rolleyes::o). Met a couple crappie.commers, Fishing Addition and Score300. Nice to finally be able to put a face with a name of the guys you talk with on the boards.:) I didnt take a picture today of the fish I kept. Will probably do that tomorrow when I clean 'em.:rolleyes:

Now that's moving around Butch :D:D It's hard to leave those spider rods at home with water temps like that. Those are some warm waters, hope the rain later this week doesn't mess it up or turn the creeks muddy again. Thanks for the Hills report :):)

Love the report! I'm headin to da Hill in the morning for the final voyage on my ole boat. What depth range were you finding them in?

SH, my plan today was to make a pretty good round checking several creeks for water temps and fish. I pretty much accomplished what I set out to do. Although I'd love reporting lots and lots of fish everywhere....I can't.:( It's like theyre here one day and gone the next...and cannot be found.:confused: After talking to a good many peiople today and reading repoirts about the hill it looks like the little guys are staging and getting ready. If that's the case does that mean the big boys are making beds right now?!? You catch 3 to 1 little ones it seems now.

Ridgerunner, everything I caught today was generally in or around 16'-20' of water. I pulled 2 1/16th jigs per rod at .9-1.0 mph that shoulda been running somewhere around 10' deep.

I think it's time to see what's happening on Russell.;)

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna be workin the same areas tomorrow, I might try some longlining for the first time. I'll post the my report, hope it's half as good as yours!

It was DEFINITELY a beautiful day to spend on the water. You just couldnt ask for nicer weather, that's for sure!:)

If the small fish are in the coves the females have to be holding getting ready to make a move. I'm not finding the males with the females so they have got to be in the shallow waters or moving up into the shallows as the water warms in the day. I haven't fished any coves in the last two weeks. Hope you find fish biting on Russell.

I'll be cutting a couple more trees down tomorrow. But if I get time in the evening I will probably burn a little gas on Russell just to see if fish have moved up any. Doubt I'll have time to fish though. You know I just gotta go see.:o;):D:D
