Im gonna try and upload the new software in my 997 today. Do i need to have the transducer connected or gps?
No. Just down load to sd card, turn on unit and install. Make sure to set unit back to factory default. Humminbird has the procedure on their site under FAQ.
I would do this with the transducer connected but only because the unit will remember the menu settings when you reset the menus to the factory defaults.
An option to this would be to use the power cable only and force the unit into the Simulator mode by powering it on and while the unit is showing the title screen (says “Humminbird 997c Si” you need to press the power button and than use the cursor to select “Simulator”. The unit will than remember any menu settings that you make as well.
