I intend to fish the Big Sandy area for the first time later in March and plan to purchase the Hydrografx maps. What GPS unit would you recommend that I purchase to use with them? It doesn’t need to be expensive or fancy, just adequate enough to get the job done. Are there any other accessories that I would need to purchase with the unit to make the maps work? Thank you.
The Hydrografx maps are for use on a computer. You can then enter waypoints into a GPS to find the spots you are interested in. Any handheld or boat GPS will work.
Thanks. I'm not too computer savvy, but I understood that the Hydrografx maps are used on a computer. I was just looking for suggestions about GPS brands and models. I guess that I would just need to make sure that the GPS unit that I bought would accept a SD card?Quote:

You don't have to have a SD card. I started with an Etrex Legend. Worked great and will put you right on it. You can get this on Walmart.com or Ebay You can get a factory reconditioned for around $100 or you can spend as much as you can stand. The Etrex is much more accurate than the IntelliMap 502c that I have.
Thank you. The CD from Hydrografx goes in the computer, but how do you transfer the waypoints from the computer to the Etrex? I'm sorry for the simple questions, but computers aren't my strong suit.Quote:

You said "plan to purchase". From what I read from your post, you don't have a clue what Ozi or anything else that CP said means. I would give you this advice. Brownnose Canepole and see if you can get his phone number and let him talk you thru or email Pat Hahs the owner of the company that you are buying from and see if he has time to talk you thru it on the phone. Pat is a GREAT guy that knows his business WELL. Be patient and take notes. These maps are excellant tool for Ky and Barkley lakes but it takes practice to figure out how to use them. You won't be sorry!
