Lead pouring questions
Ok guys I'm thinking about pouring my own jigheads and had a couple questions.
1. what is a good lead to use for jigheads 1/80 to 1/16oz
2. what would be a good price to pay for say clean lead and lead that was say made from whell wieghts but allready skimmed
3. a source for lead.
4. any speacial place i should by my molds.
5. what would be a good size melting pot to use and get
6. source for hooks and brand i should use.most likely sizes 12,10,8,6and 4
I work in a refinery so have alot of exsperience melting down metals and pouring them into molds so that part I'm not worried about but coudl use tips on preparing molds and cleaning the lead with wax.
thanks in advance

We do a lot of business with Water Gremlin in White Bear lake. They provide us battery terminals as we are components manufacturer. Are you close to them? Maybe you could get some there.
We scrap a lot and it goes back as recylcable lead. If you were close to me we could work something out.

1. For ultra-lite you want the purest - cleanest lead you can get. For the other stuff you can use harder lead.
2. $1 a pound
3. e-bay – read feedbacks
4. Flats for custom stuff – I use SRMO (they have a web site) in Jersey for Do-its (they can special order if they don’t have it in stock – ebay for molds is a crap shoot
5. Lee IV works really well – larger volume pours would be the 4-20
6. Flats matzo sickle or round – I like the Black Chrome in both
Check out tackleunderground.com – especially the safety.

Good questions for I had those exact same questions as well.
Would also like to know if used scented candles would work for cleaning the lead? Also where is a good source for getting wax and what type of candle wax works the best for doing this?

Doc you can get wax at just about any craft shiop in the candle making dept.
