Crappie Fishing Trip – Need Advice

Need some help here: Friday, March 26th – Sunday, March 28th I’ll be at Lake of the Ozarks for a bachelor party. Sunday afternoon, whenever I’m feeling better, I plan to go on a weeklong fishing trip starting from LOZ. The question is TO WHERE? I have the whole week off and am willing to drive about anywhere. I usually go to Grenada, MS every spring during this week but I am at LOZ and can head anywhere from there...Eufaula, Reelfoot, Kentucky Lake, Bull Shoals are top choices now but how the heck do I pick? Any suggestions?

It’s primarily a crappie fishing trip but would be up for some bass fishing. I have a 1648 mod-v jon with a 40 horse on it if that helps (it doesn’t take big waves well).

Any help on lakes and places to stay are absolutely appreciated.

Cann't tell whether your wanting just fish or catch a freezer full(Grenada)lol.

I think I could get a map and look for oxbows off white and black river or any over river system that has oxbows.That time frame should be good for crappie,bass and bream in oxbows.

I would head south to warmer weather. We are having and will be having cooler than normal temps for a while. Check the internet for fishing reports and water temps. Lake Arklabutla in Ms. might be starting to get good. Hope this helps

If you want to Fish Arkansas Oxbows in SE ARk....

Travel south dn 65 from LR to Pine Bluff to Gould AR, left on 114 to Jones Lake, Outstanding Slab Crappie March-April Ox Bo....futher on dn 65 to Dumas...below Pendleton dam, Morgan Point, and Belco Lake, which a buddy of mine calls snake lake...he was so scared of all the snakes swimming around, he could barely fish....but they were just water snakes, no worry ....he swears they were all cotton mouths, but he was shaking so bad he couldn't tell...but the fishing is too good. Above the dam in Coal Pile off the Main River, famous for big stringers of monster bass from years past, or over the dam to Moore Bayou, this can also get you to the AR river and the canal that cuts over to Lake Merrisach, which has had many sightings of the "Merrisach loc ness monster"....just kidding. Creepy place...but great fishing.

I would google earth this area...and get a very good map, like the Ark game fish county fishing book of maps....well worth the $.

There are many more I have failed to mention, these are all very "out in the Country" locations, so be prepared with your stuff. But these are great places with easy access and are within just miles of each other....for lodging stay in Dumas.

Reelfoot is good fishing until May you just have to check the wind speed. It does not take much wind to make that lake hard to fish. I am going to try Lake Atkins this weekend i here some good one are being caught.

I will be at lake washington, miss. southern star campground. some of the best crappie and green trout fishing any where.

Hey Slab. Come to central Arkansas. Check out my website (link below). By the end of March the water should be just right warm, crappie in the shallows, etc. Lot's of places to stay her in Hot Springs. I recommend the Country Inn (link on site). Plus, we have the horse track here if you like that kind of stuff too.

arkabutla is getting majorly drawn down for dredging opperations so it is extremely low:eek:

Arkabutla is a NO-GO. Go to Lake Wshington just south of Greenville and fish in 10 feet of water or less.
