I've been thinking about keeping a log book for fishing trips for years and now that my memory is not as good as it once was, I feel like it's time to start...does anyone else do this and besides the obvious...date, water temp, water clarity, river/lake level and bait with depth fished...what are some of the key elements that are a good entry for a fishing log?

Here's what I have been using. Good thing about excel is you can add as many columns as you want.;)

Ahhh heck.....I just have a Desk Calender at work that i have ordered every year to use ....and have been marking down all the typical conditions, lake, who went with me... and fish counts info for years, since 1993 every year....It's fun to look back at the dates and the action of the past....good memories....
BUT...The Biggest thing about it is to spot out all the good Moon Phases in advance. This will help you so much...put that down ahead of time to plan trips....I have them marked for the next two months of when fishing is best...THAT STUFF IS FOR REAL. Have learned March and April in the spring and October November in the fall have been me favorite months for Crappie as everyone knows...For the best Bluegil...that first full moon in May always is good. My most productive trips have 98% of the time been around those good moon phases for both.
Ofcourse....Google it up...and check it out.
I have all the cells formatted so it will wrap the text and you can add as many comments as you like. I also include the moon phases and even the times the moon rises since I mainly night fish.;):)
crappie log? i have one of those in about every fishing hole i go too. normally i can catch a couple off each log.

Last year I started using the calendar on my iPhone which syncs up with my work calendar so I have this info on me at all times. Gotta love high tech gadgets! There's also a .99 cent app for the iPhone that gives me real time river gauge readings that is purty handy. And not to mention the Iphone apps that give you the best times to fish based on that big grey ball up there.
I don't like to be reminded of my failures.
