I have alway's relied on my Garmin Handheld for marking waypoints and following track's because the slow refresh on my HBird's. I just upgraded the software on my 797 and my 787 and I was wondering if I was going to be safe to rely on them now instead of my Handheld. Has the upgraded software really fixed the slow refresh problem?
I have installed the upgrades in my 787. I have not had the chance to check the waypoints and tracks. I did go to a different boat ramp the other day and when I turned on the unit it didn't take as long for gps to find me.
Don't leave it at home. The refresh may be better, but as long as the donut exists, you'll want the handheld.
I left my Garmin. The Hbird GPS refresh rate has it where you can use it with confidence. The "donut" is no problem cause you're not moving anyway! :cool: Some don't like the "donut" but many more like to know when there is no recognizable heading. :)
When the doughnut is on the screen will it still tell how fast you are trolling like.7 mph?

I am debating on taking my HDS 5 off the front and putting my 797 on the front now that I have a 997. I just want the gps to tell me how fast I am going.
Give it a try. Borrow a friend's handheld Garmin and compare 'em. I understand that to take advantage of the new 4x refresh rate, you'll need a GPS receiver for whichever unit it's hooked to and not use GPS data coming through the interlink unit. Best to have a receiver for each unit and interlink for only waypoint data.Quote:
