Been out once and caught a couple in 10 to 13 foot. I assume the fish were deeper. Where would you start depthwise tomorrow? Gonna fish north end (Big Bear to the dam) but in the bays or out on the channel? Any help is appreciated! WWWD......what would wiskers do!!!!!

This time of year on the north end, I catch a lot of fish slow trolling in Little Bear. Move up into the creek where the water is 22-25 ft. Usually, I start about a ft off the bottom and will gradually fish shallower (up to about 19 ft) depending on where the fish are showing on the graph. You probably won't catch a ton of fish, but the fish you do catch will usually be of quality size. Also be prepared to tie into some really big drum and even some an occaisional decent sauger as you get closer to the creek mouth as it empties out into the main lake. There have been few times in late February/early March when I've caught serious numbers of crappie bunched up about 13 to 14 ft deep in the deep water at the mouth of Little Bear. This is usually after 2 or 3 days of sunny weather. If you fish much in Little Bear, you'll see a stream of boats all running in and fishing the same brush piles over and over, but very few people troll the deep water and are missing some really good fishing.
Usually this time of year I have a pretty good handle on what the crappie are doing. Unfortunantly I've been on the boat and I don't mean my fishing boat.:D I check the lake conditions often at this site. Hancock Biological Station - Kentucky Lake Water Quality MonitoringQuote:

I'm guessing the fish you caught might have been Blacks? And possibly small? Just guessing. With the stained water and some sunny days don't over look some shallower water close to deep water. Those blacks are prone to coming up shallow this time of year. I have caught them 3' deep in 5' of water when the bays were 42 degrees. Hard to believe but I got witnesses. You know some of them. :D Those whites are gonna be close to the mouths of the bays in the creeks anywhere from 20' to 15' I'm guessing. May even be suspended out in the middle of the creeks but trying to get out of most of the current that is in the lake.
As long as the lake is rising or stable the blacks may venture further into the first 1/3rd the bays that have deep creek channels and may be as shallow as 8' depending on weather. Either way you gotta fish slow and probably downsize the jig body. Find a ledge and work it high and low.
I'll get off this thing one of these days and when I do look out! :D
We went out for 3 hours yesterday at Eddy Creek.
We were marking most fish in 16-21 foot water on the channel ledge at 20-22 just like whiskers says. Working up and down the ledge. The fishfinder really had em stacked in places.
We were fishing double minnow rigs trying to flood the zone but didn't get the first strike.
Frustating.

Didn't make it out today. Insurance physical in morn and licensed my vehicle this afternoon. I DID finish my crappie setup on the boat. Ready now as my batts are charged. Hunting the LBL for yotes the next few days...gonna be cold.
