But the last few jigs today I have got the thread round the eye of the jig, and so I was tryin to use my whip finisher(its the small kind) and its alil different. I'm havin a lil bit of trouble tryin to gettin use to usin it, should I bump up to the bigger one? I'm using 1/64, 1/32, 1/16 jigheads. Thanks!

I learned a trick that might help you or anyone else that is new to using a whip finisher. Learn to use it on a bare hook, get the motions down and practice without having to worry about the materials getting in your way or having to worry about not getting a nice tie secured properly.
If all else fails there is always half hitches for those times a whip finish is hard to accomplish due to materials in the way as well. I have a standard Materelli whip finisher and I use it on large heads all the time, its a matter of getting the feel for it and being able to adapt to the size you're tying. Really your best bet is to get a jighead or a spare hook and just sit down and whip over and over till you no longer need to think about the steps it just comes naturally.

That was really hard for me.I finally set my vise by the PC screen and watched this video YouTube - matarelli whip finish 101
Then every move the guy made, I would pause the video and do exactly as he did. It worked for me. Now I don't even think about it.

Whip finishing is no different than learning to tie a jig. You have to practice doing it. I personally do it by hand or using the Materelli whip tool.
For kicks try using a Thompson whip finisher on a jig head, don't care who you are you'll CUSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D

Had a hard time at first, now it's easier than using my fingers. Just keep trying and don't give up

I was shown how before I owned one, so I had a step up on it. Still screwed it up a few times but it's second nature now. I use a materelli type.
